YouTube Made Me Buy It: Too Faced – Born This Way Foundation – Review

Usually, I use drugstore brands such as Rimmel, MAX-FACTOR & Maybelline when buying foundations but after watching so many beauty guru’s putting the Born This Way foundation on a pedestal, I just had to buy it and try it out for myself. I’ve had my bottle for a few months now and it’s practically empty so I will definitely be repurchasing as it is without a doubt the BEST foundation I have ever used.

What Is The Born This Way Foundation?

” This oil-free foundation masterfully diffuses the line between make-up and skin. Coverage so undetectable and skin so naturally radiant, they’ll think you were BORN THIS WAY.” – Too Faced

The Born This Way foundation is an undetectable, medium to full coverage foundation which is infused with Coconut Water to replenish skins moisture levels and hydrate the skin. It’s also enriched with Alpine Rose which will help to brighten the skins appearance and promote elasticity. Also, it contains Hyaluronic Acid which works by giving the skin a smoother, more youthful appearance.

First Impressions:

I absolutely love all of Too Faced’s packaging, absolutely gorge! The Born This Way foundation is no different either. It is a 30 ml bottle which comes in a pretty little pink box and inside is a frosted glass bottle with gorgeous gold detailing and writing. It has a black pump dispenser which can also be screwed off. On the bottom of the bottle it says the foundation can be used up to twelve months after opening too.

Shades To Choose From:

There are a whopping 24 shades to choose from so whether your light-skinned or dark-skinned there will be a colour for you. I’ve posted all the available shades below but if you want to skip straight to my review just keep scrolling down.

When I don’t apply fake tan I am very pale and quite fair skinned, I also have pink undertones in my skin so I chose the Warm Nude shade in the foundation because it it is very light and has neutral undertones with will hide the pinkness in my skin, for this reason I didn’t pick a golden or rosy foundation. The Warm Nude shade is probably a shade darker than my natural skin-tone but because I wear a light fake tan, it blends in easily with the rest of my skin. If I was to not wear fake tan I think the shades Vanilla and Porcelain would be my perfect match – next time I think I’ll buy one of those shades.

My temporary tattoo’s are still going strong!

Another pic wearing the shade Warm Nude. I am also wearing fake tan, blusher and banana powder here.

The main reason why I love the Born This Way foundation is because it makes my skin look more youthful! I’ve just turned dirty thirty and unfortunately, my skin is not what is used to be in my twenties. I have fine lines around my eyes and a deep set wrinkle between my eyebrows which I despise so much and the foundation made them look way less noticeable by deeply moisturising my skin. I reckon I can pass for 25 years old when wearing this foundation, ha ha (wishful thinking) so for that reason alone I absolutely adore it.

You lot know that I have psoriasis and luckily, I rarely get any of it on my face – I don’t get many blemishes or pimples either but I do have a very dull, boring complexion with large pores on my cheeks and this foundation makes my skin look so much brighter, completely conceals my large pores and makes my skin look radiant and glowy. It is seriously just perfect.

The foundation provides a natural coverage and if you choose the right shade to match your natural skin-tone – it will literally look as if you are completely barefaced and aren’t wearing make-up at all. It is super light weight too and it feels like you aren’t even wearing it because the skin feels like it can breathe. I hate heavy foundations that feel suffocating on the skin so this gets a big thumbs up for being light and fresh.

I apply it in the morning time with a beauty blender and it seriously stays on all day and night without fading. It doesn’t oxidise on the skin either and wont make your face look orange / darker after applying

Like I said before, I don’t get many blemishes on my skin so I don’t really need a full coverage foundation so just one layer is enough for me. It is a medium coverage foundation and one pump is enough to cover blemishes but you can build to full coverage by layering as needed.

I tested a little bit out on my psoriasis for you guys to show you how well it covers imperfections. Please keep in mind that my psoriasis are raised.

Before applying Born This Way:

After applying one layer of Born This Way:

This just looks like a white sheet of paper! I’m so pale – ha ha.

The only thing I didn’t like was after a few hours – (I’m talking 12 hours later / at the end of the day) my skin was shiny and oily on my forehead and cheeks which I don’t get as I have dry skin and the foundation is meant to be oil-free. The foundation does stay put all day long nonetheless and the shine is easily removed with a bit of setting powder though, so I’m not really bothered to be honest.

Also when the bottle is nearly empty it won’t dispense any more foundation when pressing the dispenser so I’ve screw mine off and I dip a thin make-up brush into the bottle neck to get all the foundation out which has coated the bottom and sides. Gotta get my money’s worth, hey! I will be buying a new bottle this week and I’m thinking of buying the Born This Way concealer and the Born This Way setting powder too! 🙂

Where To Buy?

I did try to buy the foundation on the Too Faced website but they don’t ship to the UK so I had to get mine here from Debenhams, next day delivery is available. It’s £29 to buy and they have a very temptating offer on right now too, so if you spend £50 or more on Too Faced products, you will receive a free gift with your order. The gift you’ll receive is Deluxe Sweet Peach Lip Gloss in Pure Peach and the Deluxe Melt-Off Mascara. Very nice indeed, hey! I might have to take them up on that offer, I can’t resist a freebie ha ha!

You can also get it on Amazon UK here*. It is a bit dearer on Amazon UK so would probably be best getting it from Debenhams – but if you have an Amazon Gift Card or something you want to spend, then go ahead. The Born This Way foundation is dispatched and sold by Amazon and not a marketplace seller, so you shouldn’t worry as it is definitely 100% genuine.

If you are from the USA, the Born This Way foundation is $39 and you can shop on the website here. You will get a FREE Hangover Deluxe, Deluxe La Creme Lipstick, & Deluxe Love Flush Blush on ANY purchase over $65!*

Thanks for reading girlies! – I hope my review has been helpful! Mwah!

DIY Craft Project: Hanging Glitter Storage Box / Wall Art

OMG – this is my second DIY Craft Project that I have posted today! I’ve gone months without posting any craft tutorials but today I’m feeling crafty & creative so there ya go! I had some boring, plain boxes lying around and I ordered one too many rolls of Muriva Sparkle Glitter Wallpaper last week, (which I got here* for £16.39 a roll) when I was re-decorating my living room. The wallpaper was too pretty to throw away, so I thought I’d make some pretty little storage boxes with the glittery left-overs.

What You Will Need

a strong, sturdy box with a lid

wallpaper or pretty paper

PVA glue

pretty birthday cards

a pen or pencil

How To Make The Glitter Storage Box:

Place the box lid in the middle of the wallpaper and cut around the box so you have enough to cover the front and the sides, add an inch on to overlap the edges.

Put some PVA glue into a bowl/container. Using a small paintbrush, slather on the PVA glue on to the front of the box.

Turn the box around and place it front down in the centre of the wallpaper, smooth ing it down with your hands to make sure it sticks.

Using a pen draw a dotted line starting from the corners of the box, right down to the end of the wallpaper. Cut along the dotted line right up to the corners of the box.

Press the overlapping wallpaper against the edges of the box and cut off the ‘triangle’, so the wallpaper has a straight edge against the box corner. Repeat this for all corners of the box. See pics below for example.

When you have finished tidying up the edges you should have something that looks like the picture below. Slather on PVA glue all over the overlapping paper and edges of the box then press down to make sure it sticks.

Apply super glue along the inch of wallpaper and fold it over the edge, pressing down for a minute or so to make sure it sticks. Repeat this for all sides of the box.

Now the top of the box is done so repeat the same steps for the bottom of the box.

The next step is optional. You can do whatever you want to design the front of the box. I used a pretty birthday card which I got from my sister and I cut out the pop up words ‘you’ve got that special something’ and used super glue to stick them down onto the box.

Optional: You don’t have to add a handle if you don’t want to hang it up on the wall as wall art. But, if you do, take the bottom of the box and glue some ribbon or string to the top of the box. I had to use some strong duct tape as the glue wouldn’t stick to the glitter wallpaper because it is vinyl. I would have used my glue gun but I’ve run out of glue sticks. If you’re using ‘paper’ wallpaper – super glue should work fine.

When the box has been covered with wallpaper and you have stuck your words / pictures / embellishments down, glued on a handle so you can hang it up & your happy with how it looks  – go ahead and fill the box up with some goodies.

I’m using my glitter box to store some beauty samples, kirby clips and hair bobbles.

I hope you guys have enjoyed this DIY Craft Project. If you like it please share it with your friends by clicking on the ‘Pinterest’ icon below and clicking share.

If you decide to make your own hanging glitter storage box – please tweet me your photo’s on Twitter – @KatieRoseLovesx or tag me on Instagram – @katieroseloves, you could also post to my wall on Facebook – here.
I would really love to see what you have made!

DIY Craft Project: How To Make A Cute Sock Bunny

It’s been aaaaages since I posted a DIY Craft Tutorial on here hasn’t it! I was looking through my drafts yesterday and I found this cute little Sock Bunny Tutorial which had gotten lost through my hundreds of ‘to do posts’ that I have yet to complete. I totally forgot about this cute little DIY project which I actually made & wrote last year after watching a tutorial video on YouTube. I thought I’d post it anyhow as it has been one of my favourite little makes so far.

It was so easy to make the sock bunny and kids can accomplish it too as well as adults. I’ve made a couple now and have left myself absolutely sockless along the way, ha ha. So, if you lot are sitting there bored out of your skulls, with nothing to do and you have an old pair of socks lying round – carry on reading to see how I made mine and give it a go yourselves.

What You Will Need To Make The Sock Bunny:

a pair of socks

a sewing machine (or you can sew by hand)

cotton that matches the socks

darker cotton for the mouth and nose

a needle

two buttons for the eyes

a pen

polyester filling (I got mine here*)

How To Make The Sock Bunny?

Below, is the video tutorial I watched on YouTube for inspiration.

My Sock Bunny:

Well girls, this is my little sock bunny! Isn’t it cute! It’s not perfect like but I really love it :). Sock bunnies are the easiest things to make and they really do make a lovely handmade gift – especially for kids. I made my two nieces one each and they’ve said they are going to treasure them forever, little sweethearts! I think handmade gifts are so much more thoughtful and sweeter than shop-bought gifts.

If you decide to make your own little sock bunny – please tweet me your photo’s on Twitter – @KatieRoseLovesx or tag me on Instagram – @katieroseloves, you could also post to my wall on Facebook – here.

I would really love to see what you have made!

Happy crafting girlies! Mwah! x

Review: Batiste – OOMPH My Locks XXL Volume Spray

My hair is quite flat, boring and limp and sometimes I need a little help to make my hairstyle look fuller, volumised, thicker and ‘Cheryl-Cole like’. I’ve had my Oomph My Locks XXL Volume Spray from Batiste lying around for ages and because I have so many beauty products stored away in storage boxes, like literally millions of stuff – I forgot all about it. I was having a clear out a few weeks ago and found the volume spray amongst all of my stuff. I’ve used it a couple of times since but it’s not an everyday thing as I only tend to use when I’m wearing my hair down or if I’m going on a girls night out. Most days I wear my hair in dutch-braids, a pony-tail or a bun-ring.

The Oomph My Locks Volume Spray is enriched with keratin which adds shine, prevents split ends and adds protein to the hair to keep it healthy which is great as I suffer from split ends and dry, fizzy damaged hair. It also contains inca inchi oil too which helps to hydrate the hair, lock in moisture, protect from sun damage as well as regulating oil production of the scalp.

It’s easy to use, just simply spray at the roots and backcomb a little using your fingers or a tail comb to add volume at the roots, then style your hair as desired. After spraying the volume spray, it does leave a white, chalky layer on the hair but it is easily removed by combing it out. It really does make your hair look more volumised and thicker – it has definitely gave my limp, flat hair a little oomph and lift at the roots and it holds hairstyles well! It also has a lovely, fresh scent that stays on the hair and doesn’t disappear after five minutes of applying. I did find that it made my hair feel dry-ish with a rough texture and the movement of my hair was not as’ flowy’ as it was before I used it so I don’t think you can get away with applying it everyday without washing the hair after each use – it contains keratin which can cause product build up.

I love dry shampoo’s and always rely on them when I’m in a rush, especially when my hair needs washing but I’ve literally no time to wash, dry and style – which usually takes ages, but I wouldn’t use Batiste’s OOMPH My Locks XXL Volume Spray as a replacement for a dry shampoo spray as it works best as a volume booster – but, it does help a little by soaking up excess oil at the roots and makes the hair smell clean, fresh and just-washed.

Some of my regular readers will know that I have fragrance sensitivities, which basically means that I can be allergic to certain smells and artificial fragrances which cause me to have violent headaches and migraines. It can be so bad sometimes and I can only use a handful of perfumes and deodorant sprays because of it. Don’t get me wrong I’m not allergic to everything… just some. Well, this spray from Batiste does cause me to have mild headaches but it soon passes and isn’t severe. So, if like me, you have fragrance sensitivities, bear this in mind before you decide to buy it.

You can buy the Oomph My Locks Volume Spray from Batiste here.

Yay! Liebster Award #2

The Liebster Award is given out by influencers to other influencers for engaging readers and creating valuable content. It is also a way to connect and support the blogging/influencer community.

I’m so happy to have been nominated for the Liebster Award for the second time running. Thank-you to Junia over at Blog With Lips for nominating me!

Thank the person who nominated you and leave a link to their blog.
Answer the questions they have asked you.
Nominate as many bloggers as you want.
Ask them some questions.
Let them know you have nominated them.

Questions for me to answer:

1.) Tell your readers about yourself and your blog.

My name is Katie, I am 30 years old and I live in a small town in Liverpool, UK. I have a boyfriend / best friend / soul mate – who I have been with since I was 18 years old and we have two kids together named Bella & Marley (our Patterdale Terrier dogs, hehe.)

My blog is a beauty / psoriasis / craft tutorial blog where I post a lot of beauty product reviews for my beauty geek, make-up and skincare obsessed readers as well as being a place for me to share all of my DIY beauty projects and DIY craft and sewing projects, I love being creative. I also review jewellery and candles too, two of my favourite things. Mainly, I started this blog back in 2015 to connect with others who suffer with psoriasis and I regularly share my thoughts about psoriasis treatments that are available and post skincare product reviews for those who have skin disorders.

2.) What’s the meaning behind your blog name?

There is no meaning really, when I first started this blog I wanted to post about everything I love hence Katie Rose Loves… ha ha. I wish I could have given a better answer.

3.) Who has inspired you the most in your life?

My gorgeous Mum. She has been a superwoman for all my entire life – a single Mum to three kids who has the biggest, kindest heart you can imagine. I tell my Mum absolutely everything, keep no secrets from her at all and she is more like a sister / best friend to me. She does so much for everyone else and never asks for anything in return. She really is a truly inspirational woman and there is no one in this world who I love and adore more than I do her.

4.) What does success mean to you?

I also have Bipolar Disorder so success, to me, means being stable and happy in life. That means the most to me more than anything in life. I’ve been in some pretty bad places in the past but now I’m settled and happy with who and what I am. I’d love to be a well-known beauty and psoriasis influencer too, who people look to for inspiration and advice. I also love money so hopefully one day I will be a millionaire, ha ha.

5.) Name one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?

That I have Bipolar Disorder probably. I’ve never told a soul until recently and sharing it has been HUGE for me. I am a very private person and keep myself to myself so telling the world that I have a mental illness has been really hard but I’m proud of my self for putting it out there as it used to be something I’d try my best to hide to avoid the stigma and being labelled ‘crazy’.

6.) What are your values and are you being true to them?

My values in life are being truthful, honest, kind, caring, non-judgmental, compassionate, empathetic and 100% genuine. I most certainly do stay true to them.

7.) What’s the best lesson you’ve learned so far?

To not give a fuck what people think of me! I’ve gone through life with anxiety worrying what others thought of me and recently I just don’t care anymore. Having psoriasis has affected my confidence in the past but I’m not going to let it hold me back anymore. I am what I am and if people don’t like it, they can jog on.

8.) Who’s your favourite influencer and why?

Oh, I have a few.

I love beauty-guru Okaylaaa for her no-shits given attitude and she’s so pretty too, I wish I could apply my make-up as good as her.

I love the gorgeous psoriasis influencer, Holly Dillon from Get Your Skin Out for being courageous, brave, confident and inspiring. She is just truly fab.

I also love April Bee for her craft tutorial video’s on YouTube. I love how handy and creative she is.

9.) Describe your blog in three words?

Honest. Truthful. Informative.

10.) What impact do you want to leave in the world?

I just hope to let young girls and women all over the world know that they are beautiful whatever age, size, race and colour they are and to be their complete selves and enjoy it. It is better to be an original than a copy, hey.

11.) Where do you see yourself in five years?

Hopefully married, I have been with my partner for nearly 13 years and he still hasn’t popped the question so he better have put a ring on it by 2022! I want some kids too maybe two or three, a nice car and a lovely big house in the countryside with loads of pets and lots of cash. I don’t want much do I! Ha.

My nominees:

More Than Skin Deep

Daisy Thoughts

NNK Skincare

Beth x Kate

Lucy Dorling Beauty Blog

All Things Allatt

Glitter Gemini

Questions for my nominees to answer:

1.) Tell us a little about yourself and your blog?

2.) What’s your all time favourite movie/film?

3.) What do you like most about blogging?

4.) Who is your favourite blogger and why?

Review: Pure Potions | Skin Salvation – Omega Rich Cleansing Oil

I was kindly sent a few skin care goodies from the fabulous Pure Potions who are an award-winning, natural skin care brand based in the UK. The products I was sent were the Scalp Oil, the Bath & Body Bath Emollient and lastly, the Omega Rich Cleansing Oil which is what I’ll be reviewing today.

What Pure Potions say about the Omega Rich Cleansing Oil:

Introducing the new Skin Salvation Omega-Rich Cleansing Oil is a 100% natural facial cleanser made with a luxurious combination of rich, effective, botanical oils for daily use to condition, cleanse and moisturise.

It has been formulated as an alternative to soap-based cleansers or make-up removers to cleanse dirt and excess oil from the face without stripping skin of moisture or damaging the epidermis.

When massaged into the skin the rosehip, calendula, sunflower and safflower oils bind to surface impurities, pulling out dirt without clogging pores, and allow them to be gently wiped away leaving the skin clean, soft and hydrated. It can be used as part of a daily skincare regime to remove mascara, foundation and other make-up as well as the grime and pollutants of everyday life.

This super-rich oil also nourishes and protects skin that might need extra care, particularly ageing, fragile or damaged facial skin, because, unlike most brands of cleansing oils, Pure Potions’ Skin Salvation Omega-Rich Cleansing Oil is a blend of carefully-selected natural oils and contains absolutely no perfume, preservatives or other added ingredients. We don’t use even essential oils in this blend because sensitive skin on the face can react to these natural additives; it is just a pure and simple blend of plant- and seed-based oils.

Ingredients: Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil*
Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil*
Rosa Canina (Rosehip) Fruit Oil
Calendula Officianalis (Calendula) Flower Oil*
*organic ingredients

My Thoughts:

I am absolutely over the moon that I have come across this brand as their gentle products have helped my skin tremendously in such a short period of time. I have been using the Omega Rich Cleansing Oil twice a day, when I wake up – before I apply my make-up and to take it all off before I go to bed. It takes make-up off so well leaving my skin deeply cleansed and even removes waterproof mascara and I love that it doesn’t clog pores on the skin too which will keep pimples, blackheads and whiteheads from appearing. After cleansing my face with the oil I am left with a little dewy shine which makes my skin look radiant and glowing. Luckily, I don’t really get psoriasis on my face apart from underneath my eyebrows but since using this oil is has kept them at bay. It has done my skin the world of good and it looks so much healthier already. My complexion is a lot brighter which I’m so happy about as usually it looks very dull and greyish.

There is quite a lot of product in the bottle and you only need to use the smallest amount as a little bit goes far, so it is long-lasting. I have been using this for about a week now and you would think I haven’t even used any at all as the bottle is still full to the brim

What I also love about the cleansing oil is that it is a 100% natural cleansing oil that contains no parabens, no perfumes, no palm oil, no SLS, no phthalates, no silicones, no PEG’s, no mineral oil and no synthetics. It is probably the safest cleanser you can use on sensitive skin and removes make-up, impurities and dirt without irritating the skin or worsening symptoms.

I apply it all over my face, (sometimes I leave it on for a few minutes to let it deeply moisturise my skin) then wipe it off with a damp wash-cloth. I am not usually a fan of cleansing oils as I like my creams and facial washes but this is an oil I will be using again and again and I will be re-purchasing.

The only thing I dislike about the Omega Rich Cleansing Oil is that after applying to the face it requires you to wash your hands with soap afterwards to remove the oil from your hands, not a biggie really. Plus, I think it is a little expensive at £22 a bottle but as I said before, one bottle will last a long time and the cleansing oil really does soothe, hydrate and cleanse problem skin, thanks to its natural ingredients.

So I suppose you get what you pay for, hey!

Recommended for:

Absolutely anyone can use this cleansing oil! Women, men, children, old and young. It is recommended for those who have sensitive skin and those with skin disorders but even if your skin is healthy you can use it. The omega rich cleansing oil is perfect for those with dry and allergy prone skin, so if you have psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis, acne or rosacea – I would 100% recommend giving this cleansing oil a try.

My Psoriasis Story

Please share this post on social media to raise awareness for psoriasis.

I still remember to this day the first time my Mum & Dad discovered my psoriasis. I must have been about four or five years old and thanks to my amazing long term memory, I remember telling my Mum that I had chicken pox like it was yesterday.

As psoriasis had been in my family for about 3-4 generations on both maternal and paternal sides, my Mum and Dad knew I didn’t have chicken pox and the doctors confirmed that it was what they knew it was – Psoriasis.

After reading lots of psoriasis blogs, I’ve learned that most psoriasis sufferers say having it did not affect them in any way as a child but that certainly wasn’t the case with me.

I remember going swimming to the local leisure centre with my P.E teacher…

Birchbox: September 2017

Last week I signed back up to Birchbox and I’ve been waiting patiently for my box to arrive. It turned up yesterday shortly after my Glossybox and I’m pretty pleased with the products in my box. When I signed up I was given the option to choose a box design out of two boxes but I was given the one I didn’t choose. Not that I’m bothered though. Ha.

Birchbox September 2017

Products In Box: 4 (1 missing) plus 2 free gifts.
Monthly Subscription Cost: £10 (plus £2.95 postage)

Manna Kadar – Fantasy 3-in-1 Blush, Highlighter, Eyeshadow | RRP £15*

Sorry for the lame photograph, I still haven’t bought a new camera! This is the first time I have ever heard or owned a product from Manna Kadar. The Fantasy 3-in-1 Blush, Highlighter and Eyeshadow is a gorgeous shade, almost bronze. I swatched a little bit of it on the back of my hand and so far I absolutely love it. I haven’t used it on my face yet as I am having a lazy, make-up-free PJ day so I will post a full review when I get dolled up.

Polaar – IcyMagic Instant Eye Contour Energiser | RRP £22*

Okay, so I have been excited about this product from Polaar, it is the IcyMagic Instant Eye Contour Energiser which helps to eliminate puffiness, dark circles and stimulates eyelash growth and also contains Siberian ginseng. I tried this out before and although I’m happy with the results, I had the fright of my life when I was trying to lubricate the ‘ball’ by squeezing it a little – the metal ‘ball’ popped and nearly put a hole in my ceiling and cause me to have heart failure, ha ha. So, now it is ball-less and to be honest it’s actually easier to apply underneath my eyes as the ball felt ‘stuck’ and didn’t roll much when applied. Will post a full review soon.

Dr. PawPaw – Original Clear Balm | RRP £6.95*

This is my first product from Dr. Paw Paw and I have been wanting to try their products out for ages. This is a 10 ml tube of the multipurpose balm which is fragrance-free and cruelty free. It’s also a great healing balm which can be used literally anywhere on the lips, skin and hair. I’ve only used a little on my chapped lips so far and it has soothed them and made them soft again! I’ve yet to try it on my skin and hair! I would repurchase this again! I think it is £6.95 for the 25 ml.

Sand & Sky – Brilliant Skin, Purifying Pink Clay Mask | RRP £39.90*

Already used this Purifying Pink Clay Mask from Sand & Sky and I do really like it. It’s enriched with vitamin A and is also a cruelty-free product as well. In my box was a small 13g sample which is enough for about 2 maybe 3 face masks. I had a pamper sesh last night and used this mask with some cucumber on my eyes! Complete bliss! I would buy the full size but at £39.90, it is a bit out of my budget so I’m not sure if I’ll buy it again. I have added it to my wish-list though!

Benefit – They’re Real! Doube The Lip in Pink Thrills | RRP £16.50*

I would have loved this but unfortunately Birchbox forgot to put it into my box. I didn’t even realise it was missing until I read the ‘what’s in your box’ leaflet. Not to worry though, I have emailed Birchbox and I’m sure they’ll send me one out pretty soon.

Free Gifts:

Lord & Berry Mascara & Eyeliner Duo

When I signed back up to Birchbox, I was asked to enter my email address to receive a free promo code for a special treat. The code they give me was for this Lord & Berry – Mascara and Eyeliner Duo which I will definitely be using. I love Lord & Berry and own a couple of their products already. Will post a review soon.

*RRPS correspond to full size products.

Also included in this months box was a 15% discount code to use at I got some fab little stickers too which I’ve put on my laptop!

Girls, make sure you all head over to Birchbox’s Facebook page on FRIDAY 29th of SEPTEMBER for an exciting day of giveaways and exclusive treats. I know I’ll be there!

Three Things About Me:

1.) I love my cups of tea! I am literally a walking tea tank. I could easily drink 50 cuppa’s a day and I spend more money on teabags, milk and sugar than I do on beauty products!

2.) I am a gamer girl and have nearly 1000 trophies on PS4. My fave game right now is Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. I’m also a big Lara Croft fan! My boyfriend moans a lot about me playing computer games because he’s not getting enough attention but I just tell him to: ”shut up and make me a sandwich”. If you’re on PS4, add me: Special-Kay-1987.

3.) I would love to move out of Liverpool to the middle of nowhere, own a log cabin by the lake with just my partner and my dogs (and my mum) as my only company. When that happens I will have smashed life! Ha ha.

Questions For Me To Answer:

1.) Would you rather have a tail or four hands and three legs?

Oh that’s a toughie! If I had a tail I could easily hide it by strapping it down or tucking it into my knickers, ha… but it would be cool to have four hands and three legs, it’s all about multitasking and I’d be able to wear three shoes. Erm, I’ll probs go with the tail!

2.) What’s your favourite colour?

My favourite colour is green.

3.) Where would you like to go for your holidays?

I’ve always wanted to go to Brazil. My perfect holiday would be an activity one and I love everything about the Amazon Rainforest, I watch all nature TV programmes and it just looks amazing, can you imagine sleeping in a jungle up a tree, that would be cool! I am a big nature geek and animal lover too so I’d also love to go to Africa for the same reasons. I’m not really a fan of sun, sea and sand holidays.

4.) What movies could you watch over and over and still love it?

Oh god I’ve got so many! Beaches with Bette Middler in, The Lion King, The Life Of Pi, Sleeping With The Enemy starring Julia Roberts. The Colour Purple starring Whoopi Goldberg is a truly amazing film too, you guys should watch it… I love Interview With The Vampire too starring Brad Pitt & Tom Cruise. Brad Pitt looks fit.

5.) What language, besides your native language, would you like to be fluent in?

Dog language! Can I pick that? I would love to be able to understand my dogs, they are little yappers and never shut up so it would be good to understand what they are saying, ha ha. If I had to choose a proper language I’d like to be fluent in it would be French, I already know a little so it would be great to be fluent in it. Did you know that the french word merde means shit in English? ”I need a merde!” Sorry ’bout my French! (no pun intended)

I nominate these gorgeous girls:

lifewithlilred beautyblended shopaholicblogs abrashattitude jadewheelerblog

smudges seemamehra sequinsandsammy beautyandbounty allthegoodblognamesweretaken

Five Questions For My Nominees To Answer:

1.) What’s your favourite selfie of yourselves? Get those pics out!
2.) What is the best compliment you have ever received?
3.) Would you lick a merde poo for £1, 000, 000?
4.) What’s your all-time favourite beauty product.?
5.) Who is your favourite beauty vlogger on YouTube?

My BEST post is probably my Miss Pouty – Hotlipz Lip Plumper review, it’s not my most viewed post but the end result was pretty shocking!

Review: Aulola – Faux Leather Jewellery Box

Girls, I was approached by a company called Aulola from Amazon UK who wanted to send me one of their gorgeous jewellery boxes for me to review on my blog. It’s been absolute ages since I posted anything jewellery related and I don’t currently own one, so of course I said that I would love to have one, so here we are.

The Jewellery Box from Aulola

The jewellery box is made with strong MDF and covered with a gorgeous snake-skin or crocodile-skin faux leather fabric, (either one, I’m not good at describing animal skin, ha)

The inside has a lovely soft velvet lining which protect your bling from any scratches and damage.

There is a small mirror on the top lid which is perfect for when you are putting your earrings in. There is also two hooks either side of the mirror to store dangling earrings. Below the mirror is a pouch which you can put anything in there but it’s perfect for trinkets and bracelets.

The upper tray has eleven separate compartments which is ideal for rings and there are also 4 separate compartments for storing rings, earrings, etc… There is also four ear stud cards to display four sets of earrings.

There are two pull-out draws which are perfect for storing, necklaces, bracelets, pins and watches, both draws have a handle and are easily pulled out.

I absolutely love this jewellery box and I’m so happy with it. It has a gorgeous faux leather material on the outside which looks classy and expensive. It matches and goes well with my bedroom decor which is black and white. I’ve had jewellery boxes in the past but I didn’t have one before this which is surprising as I have a lot of jewellery, most of it being costume jewellery. So, it was nice to finally have a pretty little box to store my bling in.

The jewellery box is a good size, not to big yet not too small and it measures 18 cm in length and 13.5 cm in width. A key is also included so you are able lock your jewellery up and keep it safe. There are three colours to choose from including black, red and pink and I’m happy that I chose the black one but the pink one looks amazing too. The velvet material inside feels lovely and contrasts the black faux leather well, it really is a nice looking jewellery box. There are loads of compartments for storing my rings, bracelets and necklaces and so on and I especially love the ear stud cards which display four sets of stud earrings, making them easier to find and see.

I think the jewellery box is well made, it doesn’t look cheap and it would make a lovely birthday or Christmas present. My camera is broke right now so I’m using my mobile phone (which is crap) to take photographs so I just wanted to add that the pics I have taken really don’t do it any justice at all.

It’s a beautiful little jewellery box.

You can buy it here for £23.99

Glossybox: September 2017

It’s been ages since a Glossybox turned up at my door. Last week I signed back up to Glossybox (and Birchbox) and it arrived this morning. In my box was three full size items which I’m pretty pleased about. I haven’t tried any of the products out properly yet as I’m super busy right now but I will sit down later tonight and try each one.

Glossybox September 2017

How Many Products In Box: Six
Monthly Subscription Cost: £10 (plus £3.25 postage)
Sign Up:

Pixi By Petra – Brow Tamer (£12)

This is the easy to use, long-lasting brow gel which defines brows and also contains aloe vera and panthenol to soothe the skin and give a natural look. It’s paraben and fragrance free and not tested on animals. I really don’t know how to feel about this one. I’m excited that this is my first product from this brand but I’m disappointed that it’s just a brow gel – which I don’t use. My eyebrows are super fine and blonde (which I tint) and they really don’t need taming, if anything they need a bit of ooomph as without my eyebrow pencils and powders it seriously looks like I’m browless, ha. I’ll give it a try anyway and if I like it I’ll continue to use.

Monu Skincare – Firming Fiji Facial Oil (£26)

I love my face oils so I’m eager to try this Firming Fiji Facial Oil from Monu Skincare. Yet another brand I haven’t bought from. This oil contains plant oils and essential oils to calm, firm and brighten dull skin. I have the travel size here but the full size product is £26 to buy. Can’t wait to try this out, lets hope it knocks a few years off me, hey!

Rodial – Suede Lips (£22)

I didn’t even know this product was in the box until I read the card which listed all the items in my box, so it was a nice surprise when I found it hiding at the bottom of the box hours later underneath all the shredded paper. So this is a full size product from Rodial, a skincare and make-up brand. I’ve never used any of thier products either but I’m very happy that this was in this months box and I will defo be using it. I have the shade Big Apple from their Suede Lips collection, all worth £22 and enriched with vitamin E to hydrate and moisturise the lips. I haven’t tried this yet but I will post a review on it in the next couple of days. Stay tuned…

Cetaphil – Mini Skincare Trio

This Mini Skincare Trio from Cetaphil is my favourite product in this months box, I love my skincare products and Cetaphil is a brand I’ve been wanting to try for ages. Cetaphil products are recommended by dermatologists world-wide for dry, sensitive skin and for skin disorders like psoriasis and eczema too. Cetaphil is used by models, MUA’s and beauty bloggers everywhere, it’s about time I got to try some of their products. I have super sensitive skin and psoriasis so I can’t wait to try these out. The full size Gentle Skin Cleanser is £14.99, the Moisturising Facial Cream is £8.99 for the full size and the Moisturising Lotion for the body is £14.99 for the full size.

STYLondon – Siligel Blender (£5.99)

I have used products from STYLondon in the past and I’m not the biggest fan of their products but the Siligel Blender has caught my eye so I will definitely give this a try later. Apparently, the Siligel Blender is more hygienic than other blenders and requires you to use less foundation as it doesn’t absorb as much as make-up sponges. Hopefully I’ll like it and it won’t end up in the products I hate bin! I”ll let you guys know…

Kinder Bueno

The Kinder Bueno comes in foil packaging and inside is a not one but TWO delicious milk chocolate wafer bars filled with a milky hazelnut filling….. Just kidding. Trying to be funny. Failed. Ha. I love that Glossybox have given us a treat this month and I’m eating it now with a nice cuppa tea. Nom Nom…

Prices listed above are for the full size products. Also, sorry for the crap pics, I really need to get a new camera.

To sign up for Glossbox use my referral link below to get your first box for only £7 PLUS you’ll receive a free makeup duo worth £30 when you sign up using my link.

Spoiler Alert:
I am sooooo excited for next months box as there are two gorgeous box designs being sent out. All Glossyboxers will receive a MERMAID box or a UNICORN box. I think I’m a more of a mermaid girl myself so I’m hoping I get the mermaid box but I’ll be happy with either!
Which one are you?

Review: Smooth Me Coconut Hair Serum – Inecto Naturals

I picked up some of Inecto Naturals‘ – Smooth Me Coconut Hair Serum from Home Bargains and thought I’d write a little review for you guys as both of my other Inecto posts have proved quite popular with my readers. I loved the Super Nourishing Shampoo & the Super Moisturising Conditioner and The Divine Coconut Hair Oil made my hair feel silky soft. Both of these posts are up there with my all-time, most viewed posts so I thought I would give the serum a whirl.

INECTO - Smooth Me Coconut Hair Serum

Who are Inecto?

Inecto Naturals are a fabulous little beauty brand based in the UK who sell natural, cruelty-free, vegan friendly skin-care and hair-care products.  What I love most about Inecto Naturals is that up to 90% of their ingredients are from natural origins. They also work with farms across the world to add only sustainable sourced oils to their products.

What is the Smooth Me Coconut Hair Serum?

The Smooth Me Coconut Hair Serum is a lightweight serum infused with Pure Organic Coconut Oil. It works by smoothing fly away hairs and tames damaged, frizzy hair leaving it feeling soft and sleek.

First impressions:

I love Inecto‘s packaging, all of their products look simple yet fresh and eye-catching. The serum comes in a 50 ml squeezy tube with a ‘lockable’ lid to stop any unwanted product spill. The serum itself is a clear, transparent oil  which smells so god damn sweet. It has a mild coconut scent too.

Inecto Smooth Me Coconut Hair Serum 1

How to use the Smooth Me Coconut Hair Serum?

Warm a little pea-sized amount of serum in your hands and run through the hair, focusing on the ends.

Inecto Smooth Me Coconut Hair Serum 2

The serum is basically an oil so you guessed it – it feels kinda oily! When applying to your hair make sure to use only the tiniest amount as only a little bit of the serum is needed. If you use too much your hair will look oily and greasy. You can add a little more if needed but I would advise to apply a little at a time so your hair doesn’t look like it hasn’t been washed in a decade! Try to stay away from the roots too as they are already lubricated with your naturally occurring  hair oils and we know that too much oil = grease. Apply only to the mid-lengths and tips of your hair.

Wow! Another Inecto product that I love! I think the Smooth Me Hair Serum is probably my all-time favourite product from Inecto which is saying something as I absolutely loved the Shampoo & Conditioner and the Hair Oil. This serum really works amazingly at taming frizzy hair and making damaged hair appear healthy-looking, my hair looks great. The serum is really oily so only a little bit is needed which means one 50 ml tube will last ages. After applying only a little of the serum to my mid-lengths and tips my hair instantly felt smoother and I can’t get over how healthier it looked. My hair was left with a little shine and it smelled gorgeous for most of the day too as the scent lingered for quite a while. I think Inecto are probably one of my fave brands right now, simply because their products are inexpensive, they really do work and they smell amazing! I can”t wait to try some of Inecto‘s other products out. I really do love the Naturals Coconut range and think I’ll try some of the skin-care products next as I’ve only used the hair products.  I will have to try something from the  Naturals Argan range next time too.

Where to buy?

I’ve bought all of my Inecto products at Home Bargains for less than £2. I think the Smooth Me Coconut Hair Serum was around about £1.20 which is an absolute bargain, trust me! Although, if you want to shop now you can buy it online at  Amazon UK here for £2.80 plus £1 postage.

Review: Tropical Soap Collection – Art Naturals

A few months ago, I was sent the lush Tropical Soap Collection from Art Naturals
who are a natural skincare brand selling, natural, BPA-free, cruelty-free and eco-friendly skincare products. They sell essential oils, hair care products, skin care products, bath and body body products, aromatherapy sets and oil diffusers and they even have a men’s collection too!
The Tropical Soap Collection is a 6-piece soap bar set suitable for all skin types and can be used by both men and women. The soaps are all infused with jojoba oil and different aromatherapy oils including lavender, lemon, grapefruit, tea tree, sweet orange and eucalyptus. All individual 4oz soap bars are sulfate-free, paraben-free, mineral-oil free and cruelty-free.

The Tropical Soap Collection

Floral Detox: a renewing cleansing soap infused with lavender.

Soothing Citrus: a rejuvenating cleansing soap infused with orange.

Tropical Cleanse:  a regenerating soap bar infused with grapefruit.

Miracle Wash: a reviving cleansing soap infused with tea tree.

Cool Mint: a cleansing soap infused with eucalyptus.

Purifying Zing: a cleansing soap infused with lemon.

Ingredients: Sodium palmate (palm oil), water, glycerin, jojoba oil, essential oils, sodium chloride.

I am really loving the Tropical Soap Collection from Art Naturals, they are probably the best soaps for my skin disorder that I have used in a long time and I do really like them! They also come in a pretty enough box to be given as a gift, so I would definately consider purchasing a few boxes to give out as little gifts for birthdays, Christmas, etc… I would love something like this as a present!

The soaps are all pretty good-sized 4 oz bars too. One bar of soap lasts absolute ages and I have only used two bars so far in the few months that I’ve had them, for this reason alone I do think this soap set is worth the money as they are really long-lasting and good quality.

I also found the soaps worked up a good lather too and my skin felt really clean and soft after using them. They do smell really nice although if you were to blindfold me I would not be able to work out which soap was which. To be completely honest, they do all smell quite similar, sweet, pretty, mild and natural  – but then again my sense of smell is awful, so don’t take my word for it!

I have psoriasis and I have found these soaps do not irritate my skin like most others do or cause my skin to flare up and react – I think that is all down to the natural ingredients that are in the soaps and the fact that they are all paraben-free, sulfate-free and mineral oil free. So, I would recommend and I do think these are the perfect soaps for people with sensitive skin, skin problems or skin disorders as they gently cleanse and moisturise the skin without irritating the skin or worsening symptoms.

Get the Tropical Soap Collection here from Art Naturals Amazon UK shop.

The Tropical Soap Collection is £13.95 – Same day & next day delivery available.

Review: TRU LEGS – Instant Make-Up Spray Tan From Home Bargains – It’s only 49p!!!

You guys will know how much I love shopping at Home Bargains for my beauty supplies, it’s local, it’s cheap, and you really do pick up some beauty, hair and skin bargains. Whilst browsing the beauty aisle I came across this instant, wash-off spray tan called TRU LEGS for 49p. Yep, 49p. I had to buy it, I love trying new products out and I wanted to see if it was any good considering it was so inexpensive. I have been using Sally Hansen’s spray tan since the early noughties which is priced at around £9.99 so I was interested to see how it would compare.

TRU LEGS say the spray tan is ‘ for beautiful, flawless looking legs with a natural glow and subtle shimmer. It’s quick drying fine spray creates an even, streak-free finish in an instant. The water-resistant formula helps hide imperfections for a longer lasting result.’

How To Apply?

Its quick, easy and simple to apply, just simply hold the bottle 25 cm from your skin and spray lightly. Blend in with your fingertips until it’s all even and streak-free. Reapply another layer if neccessary and don’t dress until the tan has dried.

First I’ll talk about the colour, I chose the DARK one and before I even tried it on my skin I thought I should have probably chose the LIGHT or MEDIUM bottles as my natural skin-tone is quite pale, almost porcelain and I just wanted a healthy glow – I’m not into that tango-ed look! Ha!

Before applying TRU LEGS
After applying TRU LEGS

It has a perfumed scent which is actually quite nice. It doesn’t smell overpowering or unbearable and after applying the tan the pretty smell stays on the skin. It doesn’t smell bad at all which I find with most tanning products.

The coverage of this spray tan is pretty poor to be honest, if you have flawless, blemish-free skin this will not be a biggie for you but if you suffer with psoriasis like me or have scars or blemishes – this will not cover any of your imperfections. I definitely prefer Sally Hansen’s spray tan for this reason alone which I find hides and covers most of my psoriasis and conceals any skin blemishes.

There’s nothing worse than putting fake tan on and getting caught in the rain or going on a girls night out and your clumsy friend spills their drink all over your legs making them look streaky. Well, TRU LEGS claims that its water-resistant so I put it to the test and ran my arm under the tap to see if the tan is water resistant and I can confirm that the water just rolled of my skin like it would if you had baby oil on. Although it’s water resistant, it can be washed off easily with soap and water.

I do like TRU LEGS spray tan and actually think it’s a great little bargain at 49p. It’s easy to apply, easy to wash off with soap and water and water-resistant too so no need to worry about streaky or patchy tan if it rains. The colour of the tan is not as dark or deep as I would have liked but I was happy with the end result which looked natural and lightly tanned. It didn’t really do much for my blemished skin so I wouldn’t recommend this tan for someone who is trying to conceal any marks on their skin. I would recommend Sally Hansen’s Spray Tan for that. It does give a flawless finish and is easy to blend into the skin, my skin didn’t look streaky or patchy either which is good. I don’t think this tan will last very long on the skin and will fade easier than more expensive spray tans. I’m actually surprised with this product and I never thought it would be as good as it is! It’s not the best tan I have ever used but it’s not the worst either! The TRU LEGS from Home Bargains won’t be replacing my Sally Hansen Spray tan but I would consider buying it again.

Review: Toni & Guy – Damage Repair Shampoo & Conditioner

I bought some Toni & Guy shampoo & conditioner last week from their Cleanse & Nourish hair collection, I chose their Damage Repair Shampoo & Conditioner as I’ve been on the lookout for a really good shampoo & conditioner to repair my damaged, frizzy hair. I’ve never bought anything from Toni & Guy before so I didn’t know what to expect but I thought with them being such a popular hair care brand, that the products were sure to be good.

Both the shampoo & conditioner come in 250 ml bottles and to be honest I expected them to be much bigger than they were, although they still had a good amount of product in each. Both bottles also have a push down dispenser which I found easy to use.

I absolutely love the Damage Repair shampoo! It has a pearlescent shimmer and foams up so well I literally had a ball whilst washing my hair and I didn’t want to rinse it off. To say the bottle is not as big as I thought it would be, I think one 250 ml bottle will last a lot longer than expected simply because it lathers so good. The shampoo helps to revitalise hair fibers, which leave it feeling much stronger and a lot more manageable. My hair is super frizzy and dry and this shampoo not only moisturises my hair pretty well but it gently removes excess oil, dirt and impurities from the hair and scalp, whilst giving it a gorgeous little shine and making it healthy-looking.

The Damage Repair Conditioner works by penetrating deep into the hair, repairing damage from root to tip leaving it feeling soft to the touch, I noticed my hair looked healthier after only using once. Like the shampoo, the conditioner has a lovely perfumed scent and it smells gorgeous. I think I may need to buy the conditioner more frequently than the shampoo which lathers amazingly because I like to slather lots of conditioner onto my hair, so basically the shampoo will last longer than the conditioner.

I highly recommend both the shampoo & conditioner if you have frizzy, brittle, dry and damaged hair. After only a week of using the shampoo & conditioner I’m really pleased with the results so far and expect to see better results after each use. My dull, brittle hair appears shinier, softer and less damaged and so much more healthier looking in such a short period of time and I will definitely be repurchasing.

Where To Buy?

I got my shampoo here for just £4.75 and my conditioner here for £4.82.

Amazon UK also have 50 ml sample bottles available to buy too, but they are add on items and you must spend £20 to qualify for delivery.

You can get a 50 ml bottle of the shampoo here for £2.99 and you can buy the 50 ml conditioner for ONLY £1 here.

Review: Blue Zoo – Depilatory Hard Wax Beans For Hair Removal (No Strips Required)

I was kindly sent some of Blue Zoo’s Depilatory Hard Wax Beans to review and I’m not going to lie I have been shitting myself thinking about using them. I am the biggest wimp ever when it comes to pain and I’ve always had the impression that waxing = PAIN. After reading some reviews on the wax beans, I’ve learned that these hard wax beans don’t hurt as much when removed and nowhere near as painful as sugar wax or wax strips.

How To Use?

The Hard Wax Beans require no wax strips and are fairly simple & easy to use.

1) Take the appropriate amount of wax beans to melt.

I used two handfuls of the wax beans, which was well enough for my forearms and upper lip, I even had some leftover

2) Heat the wax to a melting temperature of 68℃

You can use an electric wax warmer or place a bowl inside a hot saucepan of boiling water and heat gently. The wax takes about 10 minutes to completely melt. Be careful not to get any water in the bowl of wax beans.

3) When the wax has melted, it gives off a subtle lavender scent which smells pretty. Test a little bit of the wax by putting a dab of it on the back of your hand. If it is too hot or hurts, wait a minute for it to cool down a little bit. Once your happy with the temperature, using a spatula, spread a layer of the wax on the skin along the direction of the hair growth.

(Remember, your hairs need to be longer than 5mm, if your hairs are too short the wax won’t grab the hairs well and wont be removed. Also, the thickness of the wax you apply will need to be at least 1.5mm. If you spread it too thin onto your skin, it won’t remove any hairs and may hurt when doing so.)

4) When the wax becomes cool, hard and makes your skin feel taut, pull off the wax film with a quick pull against the direction of the hair growth. The faster you do this the less painful it will be.

If you have any leftover wax, you can wait until it hardens and it can be reheated to use again another time.

Colophonium(Rosin), Glyceryl Rosinate, Ethylene/VA Copolymer, Paraffin, Glyceryl Hydrogenate Rosinate, Methyl Hydrogenated Rosinate, Hydrogenated Coconut Oil, C30~45 Alkyl Methicone

Do not use if you have inflamed skin or had a reaction to any wax products in the past. If you have a skin disorder (like me) consult your doctor before using. Also, do not use within two hours of showering or sunbathing. If it is your first time using any wax products, test the wax on a small area 24 hours before using to rule out any skin reactions. If your skin does react to the wax, use aloe vera gel on your skin and discontinue use.

On the packet it says that the Hard Wax Beans are suitable for the removal of body and facial hair on all skin types but if you have a skin disorder you should consult your doctor. I have psoriasis and I remember when I was in beauty school back in the day, my teacher wouldn’t allow me to get waxed because of it, so make sure you get professional advice before using if you have skin problems.

At the moment my psoriasis has flared up really badly, It’s even flared up on my armpits so I decided against using the wax on my body and chose the safer option instead and used it on my forearms and upper lip as those areas are psoriasis-free.

I’m actually surprised that it didn’t hurt, I was expecting to be in tears afterwards but I was proved wrong. I’ll admit I felt the littlest amount of pain but it was bearable and I’m not put off using them again. I found them easy to use, the wax had a lovely lavender scent after melting and when I removed the hard wax film on my skin I could see lots of tiny hairs stuck to it, so they do work. My skin was a little red afterwards but it soon faded leaving me with smooth, hair free skin. I will definitely be using these again and I 100% recommend.

I’ve no complaints about this product and I would give it 5 out of 5 stars.

Where To Buy?

You can get a bag of Hard Wax Beans from Blue Zoo by clicking here. One 100g bag is only £6.66 and if you’re an Amazon Prime Member you can get same day delivery. I do recommend buying some waxing spatulas too, they are quite cheap and you can pick some up here for less than £2.

Review: MABOX – Deep Cleansing Black Mask

I was sent a tube of MABOX’s Deep Cleansing Black Mask to try out & review on my blog and since it arrived I have used it a couple of times already. I do own quite a few black masks already so I’m well stocked up on them right now but it’s always nice to try a new product out instead. I love my black masks and think they are the best thing ever for removing blackheads and blocked pores so I use them a lot. I even posted my own DIY Black Mask Tutorial earlier which was super easy to make and it actually works!

You can read my own DIY Black Mask Tutorial here.

Deep Cleansing Black Mask by Mabox

The Deep Cleansing Black Mask is made in China and comes in a little box, inside is the 50g black mask tube. There is a little bit of info written on both the box and tube which includes the ingredient list and directions for use, although I must say this is written in broken English that does not make sense and there are a few grammar mistakes too.

The mask itself is sticky and black with a runny consistency, it glides easily across the skin and dries within 15-20 minutes, depending how much you apply. Care will need to be taken when applying as it is very drippy and can get messy. The mask smells slightly perfumed and almost like a solvent – quite strong.

The Black Mask helps to rid the skin from blackheads, oil, blocked pores and excessive sebum whilst exfoliating and cleansing the skin. It is recommended for all skin types especially those who suffer from blackheads. It is not recommended for use on acne, spots or inflamed skin.

How To Use It?

Steam your face with a facial steamer to open your pores or fill a bowl up with hot water and place a towel over your head to stop steam from escaping.

Dry your face and spread the mask onto your t-zone, nose, forehead, cheeks and chin or anywhere you have blackheads. Avoid the jaw line, upper lip, eyes, eyebrows and hairline.

Leave on for 15-20 minutes or until the black mask has completely dried on the skin.

Gently peel off the mask, starting from the bottom and pulling upwards

Finish by splashing the face with some cold water to close pores.

Water, Polyvinyl, Alcohol, Ethyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Polyvinlpyrrolidone, Bamboo charcoal, Xanthan Gum, Essence

I wasn’t a big fan of the scent it had but that didn’t put me off using it. Another thing that put me off a bit was the grammar mistakes on the packaging, I know that doesn’t affect the quality of the product but I just thought they could have at last made an effort with it as it looks unprofessional and makes the product look cheap and tacky.

Although there are one or two things I don’t like about the black mask, it does do the job it’s supposed to, it works. It spread easily on the skin, dried in a reasonable amount of time and didn’t hurt like a bitch when I peeled it off. Once I removed the dried mask from my nose I could see all the sebum, junk, blackheads and dirt stuck onto the strip and my skin looked cleaner and felt soft too.

I would give this 3 stars out of 5.

Where To Buy?

You can get your hands on this Deep Cleansing Black Mask from MABOX here.

DIY Beauty Project: Activated Charcoal ‘Black Mask’

In the last few years, activated charcoal has become a must have ingredient in skincare products, mainly because it has wonderful detoxifying properties, it’s great for cleansing the skin of dirt, drawing out impurities and its a godsend for getting rid of blackheads. It’s become very popular for teeth whitening too. I use activated charcoal about once or twice weekly to keep my teeth looking white and polished – check out my DIY Charcoal Tooth Whitening Toothpaste here.

What You’ll Need To Make The Black Mask?

For this DIY you will only need two activated charcoal capsules. If you haven’t got any you can buy some at most healthcare & vitamin shops. I got mine here on Amazon UK. I paid £15 for a bottle of 365 capsules and I only use activated charcoal on my skin and teeth so a whole years supply will last me for ages.

You’ll also need some non-toxic PVA glue. I picked a bottle up from the kids craft aisle in Home Bargains for 89p.

You will need something to mix it in such as a bowl or tub and a clean make-up brush or flat make-up sponge. I used a lid of one of my moisturisers which was big enough and I also used a make-up sponge as I didn’t want to ruin my make-up brushes.

How To Make The Black Mask?

Pour a dollop or two of PVA glue into the bowl and carefully open each activated charcoal capsule adding the black ‘ash’ to the bowl.

Give it a good mix and your done.

How To Use The Black Mask?

I recommend steaming your face with a facial steamer for five minutes beforehand. If you haven’t got a steamer just fill a large bowl up with hot kettle water, place your head over the bowl and cover with a bath towel to stop steam from escaping.

Using a brush apply the black mask to your t-zone, nose, forehead, cheeks and chin, or anywhere that has blackheads and blocked pores. Avoid your hair-line and your eyebrows as it will hurt like hell if you peel off hairs.

Leave the black mask on for 15 to 20 minutes, or until it has fully dried on the skin.

Peel off the mask starting from the bottom, gently pulling upwards. Once removed, you will notice all the gunk, dirt and blackheads stuck to it.

Splash your face with cold water to close your pores.

Use once or twice weekly for best results.

At first I was a bit weary about putting glue on my face but it is perfectly safe just make sure you use PVA glue or any non toxic child glue. DO NOT use super glue ha ha. I’ve got to say, I’m very happy and impressed with this DIY, it was the easiest thing to make and I’m surprised at how much it looks like store-bought black masks, it works just as good too. It did work at removing blackheads from my t-zone, it didn’t hurt when removing and my skin didn’t feel irritated afterwards.

So, thumbs up this DIY Black Mask was a success!

Review: Bella & Bear – ‘The Pluckers’ Tweezer Set

I was sent this pretty little tweezer set, aka The Pluckers‘ by Bella & Bear, an American beauty brand who sell beauty tools and accessories such as eyelash curlers, make-up brushes, hair brushes and so on. They sell gift cards also which would make a great little gift and Bella & Bear products are available to buy worldwide too. What I love about Bella & Bear is that all of their products have the same matching floral print which is girly and very pretty.

‘The Pluckers’ Tweezer Set

The tweezers come in a gorgeous little floral case which feels kinda ‘leathery’ and looks very ‘shabby chic’. The case is good for keeping the tweezers clean as well as for storing, ideal for travelling. It is perfect size for fitting in your luggage, handbag or make-up bag.

The tweezers themselves are a mint green / aqua blue colour and they are strong, robust, sturdy and very good quality, I’ll be honest when I saw these I did originally think that they would be crap but I’m pleasantly surprised and happy to say that they look great, work well and do not appear cheap looking or tacky. In the few months since I’ve had them, they have not bent or misaligned which is good news.

There are 3 different types of tweezers included, they are: fine pointed (for really fine, small or ingrown hairs and splinters), slanted, (for precision work and great accuracy for shaping brows), straight head, (great for hair removal on larger areas. I’ve yet to use the pointed tweezers but I have used the straight head and slanted tweezers on my eyebrows and they grip hairs well, are precise and basically they do a good job! ‘The Pluckers’ have even won beauty awards and have featured in Cosmo beauty magazine as a handbag mush have for women.

Where To Buy?

USA: You can buy here for $14.97.

UK: You can buy here for £13.95. Bit pricey for tweezers but remember this is a set of three, they are great quality and will probably last you a lifetime.

All products at Bella & Bear come with a 100% money back guarantee.

Pura Cosmetics: Classic Coconut Lip Scrub & Lip Balm Combo

I was sent the Classic Coconut Lip Scrub & Classic Coconut Lip Balm a while back from Pura Cosmetics who are a natural, cruelty free lip-care brand selling gorgeous little lip scrubs and lip balms.

They also do thoughtful little wedding favours for guests and bridesmaid and flower girl gifts which is a cute idea and something I’ll keep in mind for when I tie the knot. Although, bear in mind, I have been with my partner over 12 years (a life sentence) and he still hasn’t popped the question so I won’t hold my breath, ha ha!

Classic Coconut Lip Scrub

The Classic Coconut Lip Scrub comes in a pretty little screw top jar and is a great little exfoliatior for the lips. One of the main ingredients in the lip scrub is coconut oil which is well-known for moisturising and nourishing the skin amazingly. The golden caster sugar gently exfoliates the lips and is the perfect remedy for dry and chapped lips. It gives your lips the perfect base to apply lipstick giving you a perfect pout. It also has the most sweetest, coconut scent ever, it really does smell lovely.

How To Use?

Apply a small amount of scrub to lips with your finger and gently buff and rub into the skin until your happy with the results. Once done, remove the excess scrub off your lips with a bit of tissue to reveal a gorgeous pout.

Ingredients: Golden Caster Sugar, Pure Coconut Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil, Mica Colouring and Flavouring.

A word of warning, as this scrub contains coconut oil – you may want to avoid it if you have a nut allergy.

The Classic Coconut Lip Balm

The Classic Coconut Lip Balm comes in a little tub with a screw top lid. The balm is made with all natural and pure ingredients including vitamin E oil which is great for anti-ageing and soothing cracked and irritated skin. The balm literally melts on the lips after applying and helps to keep the skin on your lips in tip-top shape by moisturing dry, chapped and sore lips, giving them some TLC. It also gives a  natural little shine to your lips too. Like the scrub, the balm smells like a dream and is small enough to pop into your handbag.

Ingredients: Pure Coconut Oil, Olive Wax, Apricot Kernel Oil, Vitamin E Oil and Flavouring.

The lip balm also contains coconut oil, so avoid if you have any nut allergies.

DIY Beauty Project: Activated Charcoal Toothpaste

I’ve used quite a few store-bought Activated Charcoal Powders for Whitening Teeth, you know the one’s that come in the little pots and I’ve always been a big fan of them. Activated charcoal is a highly absorbent substance which is very helpful for changing the pH and health of the mouth, and is effective in preventing cavities and killing the bad bacteria present in tooth decay and gingivitis. It is a natural solution to promote healthy teeth and gums without any toxic ingredients and contains no synthetic additives, preservatives, foaming agents, fluoride, flavours or artificial colours. It helps to remove toxins from the mouth and teeth, freshen breath, as well as whitening and polishing the teeth.

I’ve found a way to make own Activated Charcoal Toothpaste for much cheaper and it lasts longer too.

You will only need three ingredients for this DIY and they are: a toothbrush, of course, toothpaste and one activated charcoal supplement.

Activated Charcoal Supplements can be bought at most healthcare and vitamin shops, I got mine from Amazon UK right here for just under £15 from Nu U Nutrition and there were 365 capsules in the bottle, which is enough for a whole year, probably two.

If you haven’t got any activated charcoal supplements lying around then go out and get some or order yourself some online and wait for them to arrive.

Carefully open one of the activated charcoal supplements over a piece of paper.

Apply toothpaste to your toothbrush and then dip it into the activated charcoal powder so it fully covers the toothpaste. (You could also skip the toothpaste and just use the powder instead.)

Brush your teeth for around 1-2 minutes, and enjoy having black teeth for a couple of minutes, ha ha, I thought it was pretty cool.

Once done, rinse out your mouth a couple of times.

Using the charcoal powder too often, such as daily, may cause wear on your tooth enamel so I recommend using it about once or twice a week for best results.

Remember, activated charcoal can be a bit messy, so make sure you do this in the bathroom. I would advise you NOT to use an electric toothbrush as the charcoal will fly all around the room, splashing all over the walls and floor. (Took me ages cleaning my bathroom, ha ha) Your toothbrush will be stained after using the charcoal powder but it’s easily removed using a bit of hot water.

Possibly the easiest DIY I have ever done and it really works!

Soniworks: Comedone Extractor Tools – Blackhead, Whitehead & Pimple Removing Kit

Hey Chicks,
I was kindly sent this Blackhead and Pimple Remover Kit from Soniworks (which was £12.99) to test and try out on my stubborn little blackheads and problem zits. The kit looks so much more expensive than it is. Soniworks say the kit has been recommended by dermatologists which is always good and the extractor tools are made from 100% dermatologist grade stainless steel. There are 5 tools which come inside the stainless steel case and also included are some instructions on how to use, details about each tool and what type of skin complaint they should be used for which is handy. Comedone extractor tools are excellent for acne treatment, blackhead extraction, zit removing, facial blemishes, whitehead popping and pimple popping.

First of all let me start off by saying extractors are not just for acne. I luckily don’t have acne but I do have lots of tiny blackheads under my skin, particularly on my nose, cheeks and chin and they are so hard to get rid off. I also get a few spots now and again too especially on my chin. I’ve used comedone extractors in the past, I went through a phase of detesting every little blemish, pimple, whitehead and blackhead on my face – especially on the nose area, which has lots of tiny blackheads under the skin. In the past I never really got the hang of using the extractors and soon give up but this time round I’ve had a little browse on YouTube at video’s that explain how they should be used, so I know a little bit more about them than I previously did. If you are interested in learning how they work and how to use them just type ”comedone extraction” into YouTube to see how it’s done. I must warn you all though – if you have a weak stomach, don’t watch the video’s as some of them are really gross! Ha-ha.

Before using I recommend steaming your face for five minutes or so, use a facial steamer if you have one or if not pour boiling hot kettle water into a bowl and place your head over it so the steam hits your face, then cover your head over the bowl with a towel to stop steam escaping. Be careful not to get your face too close to the hot water. Steaming your face will open your pores so after steaming extraction of blackheads, whiteheads etc is easier. I highly recommend that you read the instruction leaflet so you know which tool to use for each problem, as there are different tools for different jobs, although you can use whatever tool you feel comfortable with.

I advise that you don’t overuse these on your face don’t spend a lot of time on one area because your skin will feel really sore. You may notice some red blemishes after using the tools but this is nothing to worry about, the redness will fade pretty quickly. Also, in my experience they do hurt a bit when using, but only if you press down too hard, it may feel uncomfortable. Always make sure you clean the tools before each use too, medical alcohol pads, rubbing alcohol or simply a little bit of disinfectant will prevent any bacteria and skin infections from happening.

It is a brilliant little kit and handy to have, you never know when a blackhead or a pimple is going to erupt on your face! – You can expect great results with the kit, especially if you know how to use it properly. I’m finally getting the hang the tools and my skin is looking so much clearer already. I have been using it once a week and with each use my skin looks healthier and my complexion is much smoother. Yippee!

You can buy a kit here for £12.99 on Amazon UK.
