I used the Colour Mask hair dye by Schwarzkopf for the first time ever a few days ago in the shade ‘dark brown, #400’. The Color Mask dye is apparently the first hair mask colourant! It is a permanent hair dye – looks like a hair mask and the shade I chose was from the Dark Chocolates range. It contains a threefold indulging formula containing strengthening Amino-Active-Protein, a smoothing compatibility-booster and the conditioner is enriched with nourishing Shea Butter. It claims to provide a natural looking colour with 100% grey coverage, a glossy shine and cared for hair.
I used Home Bargains‘ own range Ultimate Definition hair dye last month and although I liked it at the time, it had began to fade badly leaving red, brassy undertones in my hair – more noticeable at the mid-lengths and ends of my hair and especially visible when the light hit it. So, I was hoping this one would cover the unwanted red tones and not fade as much.
1 60ml tube of Colour Cream
1 60ml jar of Developer Cream
1 25ml Sachet of Shea Butter Conditioner
1 instruction leaflet
1 pair of gloves
The Color Mask was a creamy, thick, non-drip conditioner-like hair mask. It came in a tub and was easy to mix and applied like a hair mask. When I first applied the mask to my hair, my eyes did sting a bit at first but it only lasted a few seconds.
I found the gloves to be okay too, they didn’t rip half way through which is great as there is nothing worse than stained dye on the fingers after cheap gloves have ripped. Overall, I really liked the idea of the Color Mask and I like the fact it’s in a tub. It was easier than a bottle and I was able to use all of the dye without any being wasted and it was non-drip to so less messy than a bottle dye. Like all dark hair dyes, the Color Mask does stain the skin and clothing, so be a little more careful than you would a hair mask. I left the dye on for the recommended time of 30 minutes and after rinsing the dye out of my hair I used the included Shea Butter Conditioner! The conditioner was amazing and it smelled lovely. If Schwarzkopf were to bottle this conditioner – I would definitely buy it.
The colour and end result was what I expected, it was very dark, almost like an off-black but I do expect it to fade a bit with each wash, hopefully not too much though. I do like the colour, it’s natural-looking and even throughout although I can’t comment on the grey coverage as I don’t have any greys. I love how healthy and shiny my hair looks and it feels really soft.
One box was just about enough, the length of my hair is just below my shoulders but it is very thick so I would probably use two boxes next time instead of one. I will be repurchasing. If you have long or thick hair I would recommend buying two or more boxes.
Disclosure: I bought this with my own money.
I purchased mine from Home Bargains for £3.99.
Although you can get it from Amazon UK here.
