Review: Mr. Blanc Teeth – Bamboo Charcoal Whitening Polish (Mint Flavour)

Hey girls, this is my first review in ages – I’m so happy to be back reviewing and I was kindly sent some teeth whitening products from Mr. Blanc Teeth a few weeks ago to review. One of the products I received was the Bamboo Charcoal Tooth Whitening Polish which retails for £12.99 on their website here.

Mr Blanc Teeth

Mr. Blanc Teeth are based in the UK but they do offer free worldwide shipping.

The Bamboo Charcoal Whitening Polish is a 100% cruelty-free, safe, non-peroxide mint flavoured charcoal polish that targets teeth staining tannins found in tea, coffee, tobacco and wine. The polish is low in abrasion and works b y removing stains from the surface of the teeth without harming enamel and helps control tartar build-up which results in whiter looking polished teeth. It also helps to keep enamel strong and healthy and leaves teeth feeling clean and fresh. The polish is a whitening polish only and you must use a regular toothpaste alongside it. I use the polish before I brush my teeth as normal.  It’s great that brace-wearers can use the polish although it is not recommended for breastfeeding or pregnant mums due to the ingredients.

The polish comes in a black squeezy tube and has a lockable flip lid. It is a 100ml tube. and has all the info you need including ingredients list on the back of the tube. Dr. Blanc Teeth also say the polish is 100% safe for daily use and they recommend using the polish twice a day. I have been using it about 3-5 times a week instead of daily and I have still seen good results. To use you just put a little of the polish onto your toothbrush and brush your teeth like you would with a regular toothpaste. I leave the polish on my teeth for a minute or two for a deeper clean and extra whitening results. The polish will make your teeth look greyish or black because of the activated charcoal but don’t worry, it will not stain your teeth and although it looks a bit mental, it tastes ok – minty and fresh.

Dr Blanc Teeth Charcoal Polish Review

First time I used the polish my teeth looked instantly cleaner and after a few days I noticed they were looking whiter. I love how it prevents tartar and plaque build up by polishing tooth surface so plaque is less likely to stick. I have tried a few polishes in my time but I do think this one is the best I have used so far and I don’t find it abrasive either which is amazing for me as I have sensitive teeth. I’ve also been using it alongside the Pro Whitening Toothpaste – I’ll pop a review up for that in a few days.

BUY IT

Superdrug have an offer on right now, so you will save 1/3 on selected Mr. Blanc Teeth products.  Your welcome 😉

Review: INSTAsmile – Upper Clip In Veneers In Shade BL1 – BEFORE & AFTER

Hey everyone!

My long awaited clip in veneer review is finally here!!! I know I’ve kept you guys waiting but I wanted to give them a good go before I shared my opinion with you all!

So, first up, a little ‘smile’ background. I have always been self-conscious about my teeth and every time I smiled I would always cover my mouth to hide my smile. I have a huge gap in my front teeth and I have some overcrowding on the right side which I hate. I had always dreamed of having a perfect Hollywood smile and I even considered getting a brace or traditional veneers to fix my teeth and make them look better! But, they are both so expensive and way out of my budget costing thousands. A few months back, I seen a few photo’s of beauty bloggers wearing clip-in veneers on Instagram and I was very impressed with the before and after photo’s so I had a look on google and found INSTAsmile who specialize in custom-made, pain-free clip in veneers at an affordable price. I spoke with the company who kindly gifted me with my veneers to review and share my honest opinion on my blog. It’s been a few months since I got them now but I thought I would give them a good trial before I posted a review on them. So here we are 3 months later!

INSTASMILE CLIP IN VENEERS 1

INSTAsmile clip-in veneers are made from safe, bio-compatible dental grade materials, perfect for cosmetic dental products which are BPA and Monomer free. INSTAsmile ship worldwide and give you the option to pay in full or spread the cost with interest free instalments. The first step is to complete the smile assessment online to check your suitability, you can then create your smile from a range of options, looks and shades. After placing your online order you will be sent a self impression kit with full easy-to-follow instructions to provide an impression of your natural teeth and gumline. Once you have sent your impression back, it will be checked to see if it meets the quality standard to be sure that you receive the best fitting veneers as possible. INSTasmile then digitally scan your impression and use it to create your bespoke, custom-made clip on veneers. The whole process takes about 3-4 weeks roughly.

STEP ONE –  GETTING STARTED

After browsing through the website and reading some reviews, I went ahead and chose the CLASSIC clip-in veneers which are for occasional wear and cheaper than the  PLATINUM clip-in veneers which are for everyday wear.

The CLASSIC option cost from £249 and includes safe, custom-made, stain resistant veneers which have a natural, slimline appearance with different shades to choose from. INSTAsmile also say you can eat and drink with them in, but on this I disagree. It’s uncomfortable and messy to eat whilst they are in although I have no problems drinking. But, everyone has their own opinion.

The PLATINUM option are priced from £499 and have the same features as the CLASSIC and also includes enhanced durability, express service, extended warranty, a smile consultant, enhanced aesthetics, innovative technology, impression appointment, (if required) and precision engineering.

STEP TWO – SMILE ASSESSMENT

I took the smile assessment HERE. It’s basically just a few questions to work out if clip-in veneers are suitable for you. You will be asked if you are having  any dental treatment, or if you have any oral health issues such as gum disease, bleeding, soreness or loose teeth. You will also be asked if you have 4 or more missing upper or lower teeth in a row. as you will need at least one tooth either side of your mouth to clip the veneers in.

CHOOSE YOUR GOALS

After you have answered a few questions and if you have passed the assessment you will be asked what your smile goals are, such as straighter looking teeth, to cover missing teeth, to hide natural gaps or chipped teeth and/or to whiten teeth or hide overcrowding. I wanted straighter, whiter looking teeth, to cover natural gaps and hide overcrowding. Basically, the full works!

SELECT YOUR ARCH TYPE

You will then be able to choose your set(s). You can opt for an upper set only, a lower set only or both. It works out cheaper if you buy the upper and lower set together rather than purchasing them individually, at different dates, etc…

I chose the CLASSIC upper arch only.

Classic

Top – £249
Bottom – £249
Top & Bottom – £379

Platinum

Top – £499
Bottom – £499
Top & Bottom – £749

CHOOSE A VENEER SHADE

There are four shades to choose from. I chose the whitest shade BL1 for my upper arch as I wanted a super white smile. They are much whiter than my natural bottom teeth so I do wish I would have chosen shade A1, just so my top and bottom shades match. I suppose I could get my bottom teeth whitened so they are the same colour as the veneers but it’s not really noticeable as when I smile I only show my top teeth, my bottom teeth are not visible. Maybe I’ll get some BL1 clip-ins for my bottom too so they match! We’ll see hey.  So, yeah, keep this in mind if your only getting a top arch or a bottom arch as you want them to look close in shades to your own teeth as possible so they don’t look obviously fake and mismatched, especially if you can see all of your teeth when you smile/talk.

veneer-shade-guide

The shades available are below:

BL1 is the whitest shade available and gives the appearance of artificial, whitest white, dazzling teeth. Extra white!

A1 is the most natural white that a tooth can be and radiates a slight whitened look. – Good enough!

A2 is a light ivory colour giving a natural look prior to undergoing any whitening. – Too beige for me.

A3 is a medium ivory colour slightly darker than A2 maintaining a natural tone – looks kinda yellow to me though.

I would only go for Shade BL1 and A1 to be honest, The A2 and A3 shades look yellowish to me.

STEP TWO – IMPRESSION KIT

INSTASMILE CLIP IN VENEERS 2INSTASMILE CLIP IN VENEERS 4INSTASMILE CLIP IN VENEERS 3

About two weeks after ordering my upper self impression / mould kit arrived in a small box and included was an instruction leaflet, two blue upper mouth trays, three yellow putty’s in small plastic tubs and three white putty’s in small plastic tubs as well as a sealable plastic bag to put your finished mould into when sending it back. The instructions show you how to create the putty and how to take a good impression of your teeth – I found watching this video tutorial helped.

I made sure to leave the kit for 12 hours at room temperature. For the upper set you need to mix and knead one yellow and one white putty together for 30 seconds to activate the putty. Roll the putty into an egg shape and place onto the front of the mouth tray by the handle. This step needs to be done quickly. Put the tray into your mouth and push from the bottom upwards, also press gently along your gumline and wait 3 minutes before removing. First time I tried it I was too slow and the putty became hard but I had two more tries and finally got a good impression.

Once I had taken an impression of my upper teeth I emailed a photograph of my impression to INSTAsmile for approval and was happy when they said it was a good impression and I could send it back to them. I put my impression in the plastic bag and back into the box it came in with the free delivery label that is included with the mould kit and sent it back to INSTAsmile so they could make my custom-made clip in veneers to fit my teeth.

STEP THREE – DELIVERY

I think it was about 3-4 weeks after sending off my impression kit when I received a dispatch email from INSTAsmile telling my veneers were on the way. I was so excited and didn’t expect them to be delivered the next day after I received the email. They came in a small box and inside was a free luxury mirror case which had my lovely, gorgeous, white veneers in.

THOUGHTS

I’m absolutely over the moon that I came across INSTAsmile and got the chance to work with them. I thought I’d be stuck with a smile I didn’t like forever as I couldn’t afford real veneers and braces were too expensive. It would take me ages to save up too.

I wanted straighter, whiter looking teeth and to cover my natural gaps and hide slight overcrowding and my clip-in veneers have done just that, my appearance has been improved – I feel so much more attractive than I did and my self-confidence has been boosted so much. I no longer hide my teeth when I smile so I’m really happy about that. I really love how white they are too – I choose the whitest shade ‘BL1’ for my upper set but like I mentioned above they are a shade or two whiter than my natural bottom teeth which are a natural shade of white, more like A1 so although I wanted the whitest ones it probably would have been wise to choose A1 instead, especially as I only have the upper set. Maybe I could whiten my bottom teeth so they are the same colour as the veneers. If I do I’ll update this post with the results.

The clip-in veneers are so easy to put in and take out and they feel tight, snug and safe on my teeth – they don’t move and there is no chance of them falling out. You just simply place them over your natural teeth, pushing up to click them in securely. They also blend into my gum-line perfectly and it looks very natural. For the first few days of wearing them, I was talking with a lisp but it soon disappeared and I was taking normal again. I wear mine everyday and they are comfortable to wear although I will admit after a few hours I can’t wait to take them out. Obviously it does feel like you have something in your mouth when wearing them but over time you get used to it. INSTAsmile say you can eat and drink with them in but I did find it a little uncomfortable eating with them in so I do prefer to take them out when I’m eating but I do leave them in when drinking. They have proved to be stain resistant too and I have drank tea, coffee, red wine and coke whilst wearing them and they haven’t stained at all and they are still in tip-top condition after two months of wearing them near enough everyday.

I have been so vain since I got them and I am smiling in the mirror constantly as I can’t believe I have a gorgeous white, straight smile with no gaps and no overcrowding.  I can actually smile in my selfies now instead of pouting, haha.

One thing though. My boyfriend doesn’t like them, he prefers me without them and says our imperfections are what make us beautiful. Cutest thing he has EVER said. LOL. So, yeah they will take some getting used to but they will definitely improve your confidence.

Here’s a short video I posted on YouTube.

instagram-Bjki7x_BXT5

Not only have INSTAsmile made me feel more confident but they have me the incentive to quit smoking too and it’s been two weeks since I had a cigarette. (UPDFATE: 19/09/2018 –  9 MONTHS SMOKE FREE) I have loved having straight, white teeth so much that the money I save from quitting smoking is being saved up so I can eventually get a brace and professional whitening.

So thank you InstaSmile!

DIY Beauty Project: Activated Charcoal Toothpaste

I’ve used quite a few store-bought Activated Charcoal Powders for Whitening Teeth, you know the one’s that come in the little pots and I’ve always been a big fan of them. Activated charcoal is a highly absorbent substance which is very helpful for changing the pH and health of the mouth, and is effective in preventing cavities and killing the bad bacteria present in tooth decay and gingivitis. It is a natural solution to promote healthy teeth and gums without any toxic ingredients and contains no synthetic additives, preservatives, foaming agents, fluoride, flavours or artificial colours. It helps to remove toxins from the mouth and teeth, freshen breath, as well as whitening and polishing the teeth.

I’ve found a way to make own Activated Charcoal Toothpaste for much cheaper and it lasts longer too.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED?

You will only need three ingredients for this DIY and they are: a toothbrush, of course, toothpaste and one activated charcoal supplement.

21740434_10213789322831612_1148065887620278288_n

Activated Charcoal Supplements can be bought at most healthcare and vitamin shops, I got mine from Amazon UK right here for just under £15 from Nu U Nutrition and there were 365 capsules in the bottle, which is enough for a whole year, probably two.

a3

HOW TO MAKE THE DIY CHARCOAL TOOTH WHITENING POWDER?

If you haven’t got any activated charcoal supplements lying around then go out and get some or order yourself some online and wait for them to arrive.

Carefully open one of the activated charcoal supplements over a piece of paper.

a2

Apply toothpaste to your toothbrush and then dip it into the activated charcoal powder so it fully covers the toothpaste. (You could also skip the toothpaste and just use the powder instead.)

a1

Brush your teeth for around 1-2 minutes, and enjoy having black teeth for a couple of minutes, ha ha, I thought it was pretty cool.

Once done, rinse out your mouth a couple of times.

ADVICE:

Using the charcoal powder too often, such as daily, may cause wear on your tooth enamel so I recommend using it about once or twice a week for best results.

Remember, activated charcoal can be a bit messy, so make sure you do this in the bathroom. I would advise you NOT to use an electric toothbrush as the charcoal will fly all around the room, splashing all over the walls and floor. (Took me ages cleaning my bathroom, ha ha) Your toothbrush will be stained after using the charcoal powder but it’s easily removed using a bit of hot water.

Possibly the easiest DIY I have ever done and it really works!

Love

Katie

Review: Peroxide Free Teeth Whitening Strips by Whiter Smile

3333333333333

Hey sexy ladies,

I’ve another teeth whitening product review for y’all, this time it is some teeth whitening strips which I’m relatively new to as I always favour my whitening gels and tend to use them the most. The whitening strips I have been using are from a company called Whiter Smile and there is 14 sachets included in the box and each includes an upper strip and a lower strip in each foil packet. After reading the instructions and placing the strips over dry teeth – they should then be left on for 30 minutes.

222222222222222

Before applying, I had to make sure my teeth were bone dry so the strips would stick to my teeth, first time I used them I forgot to wipe and dry them and the strips would not stick so I had to open a new sachet. I found them very easy to use and apply with the trickiest part being keeping my teeth dry from saliva before applying them. Everything else, no probs.

15095682_10210878942673927_5549262635547551812_n

The strips don’t taste bad at all and they have a slight minty taste when they are on the teeth. After using the strips twice a day for one week my teeth are noticeably whiter by a shade or two. The strips are gentle on enamel and peroxide free so I did not feel any tooth pain, sensitivities or gum irritation whilst using and after using. Because they are peroxide free they don’t work at whitening teeth as quick as peroxide based gels although they do work and I found them to be much gentler on teeth, enamel and gums too which makes these strips perfect for those with sensitive teeth or those who don’t have heavily stained or discoloured teeth who are looking to go a shade whiter.

5555555555555555555555555555555555555The strips gently and gradually whiten teeth compared to the very fast whitening results and often enamel damaging that peroxide gels have. I was actually surprised at how well these worked and I would defo buy them again. I think the strips would come in handy when you’re in a rush or on the go as they are quite transparent and invisible so can be worn whenever and wherever so I love them for that reason alone. I seen slight results after the first results but by day 2 and 3 I saw a huge difference. My teeth are quite white anyway but as I have ran out of my usual gel they were in need of a top up and I was happy with the results of the strips. I will be buying my gels again but I will certainly use these strips again when my. Teeth need a little brightening so my enamel doesn’t suffer from unnecessary damage.

15178075_10210878936993785_6498557709470040632_n

So, finally I would recommend these for those with slight discolouration as they have made my teeth appear clean, glossy and white but if you have heavily stained or really yellow teeth I recommend Denivit toothpaste and Dr Collins Whitening Gels as I don’t think these strips would give you the results you want. Alongside the strips I have been using Denivit anti-stain and whitening toothpaste as well as brushing my teeth and pulling with activated charcoal so I think all three have worked amazing together.

If you’d like to buy these whitening strips from Whiter Smile you can do so by clicking here.

Read my Denivit Anti-Stain Toothpaste review here. Best. Toothpaste. Ever.

For those who are curious – I buy my Dr. Collins 22% Peroxide Whitening Gels from Dentstore.

Love Yas,

Review: Laila London – Activated Charcoal Tooth Whitening Powder

The fab company, Laila London kindly sent me some of their Charcoal Tooth Whitening Powder for me to try out and I have used it for a whole week straight, once in the morning and again before bedtime. I have lost count of how many teeth whitening products I have used over the years but I have never tried a charcoal tooth whitening powder before, so I have been extremely excited to give it a whirl and I’m pleased to confirm it hasn’t disappointed.

zsdfgyhujik

What Laila London say:

A natural solution to promote healthy teeth and gums without any toxic ingredients normally used in toothpaste. Contains no synthetic additives, preservatives, foaming agents, fluoride, flavours or artificial colours, and no abrasive baking soda. Uniquely formulated to clean and safely polish teeth, improve gum health and freshen breath.
The main ingredient in Laila tooth powder is Coconut Shell Activated Charcoal known for tooth whitening and removing impurities.
⦁ Activated Charcoal is a highly absorbent substance. It removes toxins. Activated charcoal can be helpful in changing the pH and health of the mouth, and as such is effective in preventing cavities and killing the bad bacteria present in tooth decay and gingivitis
⦁ White Kaolin Clay is high in calcium, silica, zinc and magnesium. and it helps to whiten and polish teeth. even those with very sensitive teeth can use this 2x a day without sensitivity issues.
⦁ Calcium Powder provides extra calcium and magnesium to provide minerals and whiten.
⦁ Cloves is naturally antibacterial and gives a great taste.
⦁ Cinnamon is also antibacterial, tastes great and helps discourage bacterial growth in the mouth.
⦁ Ginger is an extremely effective solution in the fight against toothache pain.
⦁ Peppermint tastes great and is soothing to the gums and freshens breath.
⦁ Lemon powder – For fresh breath

Thoughts

The charcoal powder comes in a small amber brown glass jar with a screw top lid and the powder inside is a very light grey colour which has a pleasant and mild spicy scent with the slightest hint of natural peppermint. This powder should not be used as a substitute for toothpaste, the powder is fluoride free so you will still need to brush your teeth with toothpaste to protect from cavities. The 60ml jar is only small but there is quite a bit of powder within it and a little goes a long way so I reckon this will last a good while. It’s also 100% completely natural and it is suitable for vegans too.

hhnkm

hgjb

To use you simply pour a little of the powder into the palm of your hands and dip your wet toothbrush into the powder. After emptying a little powder into my hands to dip my toothbrush into the powder went everywhere, so I would advise using a little scoop of some sort so there is no product waste. I used a teaspoon. I wouldn’t advise dipping your toothbrush into the jar as this can cause the bacteria growth within the jar, so make sure to pour it into your hand.

ytghujikl;.png

When I began to brush my teeth and gums with the powder I was alarmed when all of my peggies turned dark grey almost black as I really wasn’t expecting that to happen. It was cool having black teeth, ha ha! At first it felt and tasted a little powdery and chalky but after the powder mixed with my saliva the chalkiness soon disappeared and the powder melted. I brushed for about two minutes each time I used it and rinsed my mouth out with water a couple of times afterwards until I was spitting clear water. It left a mild, sweet spice aftertaste in my mouth once I had finished although it didn’t taste bad at all. My toothbrush was stained afterwards but a good rinse under the hot water tap sorted it out.

After the first use I could definitely see a difference. My teeth looked super glossy and polished and although my teeth were already white before I began using the charcoal powder I could definitely see they had lightened a little bit more and  they looked a-lot cleaner and smoother. My teeth were left clean and polished and the appearance of my teeth and gums had improved  even after the first use. After a weeks use my teeth are looking amazing as are my gums and there has been no damage to my tooth enamel, I’m happy that this powder is replacing all the lost minerals from my teeth through bleaching thus making them stronger and hopefully with longer use, the powder will maintain my white smile.

Would I buy again?

I would buy it again, yes. I think it is great value for money at £8.95 and it is much safer and gentler on my teeth than whitening gels are. I got mine here. You can also pick up a jar at your local Boots.

This is the first time I have used a Laila London product but I will definitely be trying out some of their other stuff, their Rose Coconut Body Scrub sounds too lush and their Lip Butters and Honey & Coconut Herbal Face Mask are on my wish list too.

Smile Kit – DIY Teeth Whitening Kit From Smile:Now

Ola Amigos!

Two weeks ago I was sent a peroxide-free teeth whitening Smile Kit from Smile:Now to review and I have been using the kit for about 12 days now. I am a smoking, coffee drinking, coke addict so my teeth are very prone to staining and discolouration so I often rely on whitening products to keep my teeth looking clean and white. I use Denivit daily, (best anti-stain and whitening toothpaste, EVER), as well as whitening my teeth with Dr Collins’ All White 22% Carmabide Peroxide gels whenever I feel the need. I thought I would give the Smile Kit a whirl as I hadn’t bleached my teeth in ages and I was due a top-up!

CONTENTS:

The contents come in a expensive looking presentable box that looks very professional indeed, there is an instruction manual included too. Here’s what’s in the box:

1 x Mouth Tray Box and 2 Mouth Trays (One For Top, One For Bottom)13872755_10209833461857560_5901625161061580959_n

A Shade Guide13669190_10209833475617904_2873582241772029811_n

How to use?

Compare your teeth with the shade guide and jot down the number closest to your shade.

Place mouth tray in boiling water for 10=15 seconds and place in your mouth over teeth and sucking to create a tooth impression on the tray. Rinse with cold water to set and repeat for the bottom mouth tray. Trim any excess rubber of the trays if you desire a perfect fit.

Put some whitening gel along the length of the trays and place in your mouth.

Take out the plastic piece from underneath the UV light battery and after turning it on, place the light over the mouth trays for ten minutes.

Remove the light and keep the mouth trays in for a further 30 minutes then rinse your mouth out and the trays.

Put some remineralising gel along the length of the mouth tray and put the trays back over your teeth for ten minutes then rinse again..

Compare your results using the shade guide to see if your teeth are whiter.

Cons

I am one of those ‘serial label reading lunatics’ and I check the ingredients list on labels and research each ingredient before using a product so I was a little disappointed when I couldn’t find the list of ingredients on the box or  on the website. The only information given is, ‘peroxide-free’, nothing else. So I haven’t a clue what the gels are made from!

I had trouble with the bottom mouth tray and my teeth didn’t make a good impression as much as it did with the top tray.

Although my teeth did whiten a shade or two, it took much longer to see any results compared to my Dr Collins gels which gives me instant results. I only began to see a difference after the fifth day of using daily.

Pros

The kit looks the part, it looks very expensive and I think it would make a fabulous gift.

They are peroxide free so they are much gentler on enamel and don’t cause any sensitivity compared to peroxide gels.

I didn’t see any improvement until the fifth day but after using for 12 days my teeth had whitened by a shade or two.

If you email the company with your order number and feedback you will receive 3 more whitening gels and another remineralising gel completely free. So basically, you can get two kits for the price of one just by giving honest feedback!

Would I buy again?

I probably won’t buy the Smile Kit again as I prefer my Dr Collins 22% Carmabide Peroxide gels over the Smile Kit gels. I see quicker results and I don’t have to whiten my teeth as often. I know peroxide based gels can be harmful if overused but because I only use them now and again I doubt I’ll do any harm to my enamel.

If I ever decide to replace my peroxide gels with gentle peroxide free ones, I would definitely try the Smile Kit again but until then I will continue using my Dr Collins whitening gels.

I don’t recommend this kit for heavily stained teeth, I advise you speak to your dentist before using any whitening gels and ask for a deep cleanse and polish for your teeth before using whitening gels for best results. If you have periodontal disease or gum disease it is important you speak to your dentist before using any whitening products on your teeth as you may do more harm than good!

Where to buy?

You can get yourself a Smile Kit by clicking here. A Smile Kit is £29.99 to buy.
